The PiTCH provides a forum for musicals in their earliest stages of development. Each musical creation team is provided with a week-long residency at the Festival. At the end of each week, the creative team ‘pitches’ their material to audiences with a presentation lasting approximately an hour long. Afterward, the audience and creative team engage in active dialogue about the piece and the process.
Week 4: Devil’s Kin
Inspired by one of the most violent skirmishes in American history, Devil’s Kin tells the tale of the Hatfield & McCoy feud and focuses on the mothers and daughters of these infamous families. We follow Roseanna McCoy, who longs for a life of learning, far from the inebriating violence the men of Tug Valley perpetuate. After a chance encounter the ingrained beliefs both families hold dear. With a score rooted in Americana folk, Devil’s Kin is a provocative examination of love and loyalty that asks: What is stronger, love or blood?

Week 5: The Showmen
The Showmen takes the classic MGM movie musical formula and flips the script. Omposer Edward Rutledge signs a contract to fix songs in a new movie musical, but soon finds himself in a love triangle with film stars, Roger Corwood and Vivian Bradford. The story is familiar, and yet completely new. Boy meets girl. Then boy meets man. Boy loses girl, boy loses man, boy is left alone to meet himself.
