Each week, Artist Café showcases an expansive variety of local artists working in film, visual and performing arts, theater, photography, literature, painting, sculpture, poetry and more. About the Host
Bill has worked at WSKG for 20 years, first as Editor of the Arts Calendar, Music Librarian, and Weekend Evening Announcer, becoming the Music Director and Mid-day Radio Host in 1996. Still serving as Music Librarian, Bill also conducts live and pre-recorded artist interviews about art and cultural events across WSKG’s 21-county coverage area.
Bill was born in Harrisburg, PA, grew up in Endicott, and graduated Union-Endicott High School. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Education from Susquehanna University, after which he taught music in a pre-school interdisciplinary reading program for inner city children, then teaching general music at a local junior high school. Bill went on to earn his Masters Degree in Historical Musicology at Binghamton University with his Master’s Thesis The Evolution of Production Styles of Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen”, 1876-1976. Bill is currently Choir Director at Christ Episcopal Church in Binghamton, and has performed with Tri-Cities Opera, the Ti-Ahwaga Community Players, Summer Savoyards, as well as with the Binghamton University Chorus.
Crystal Sarakas, host of WSQX News programming and radio producer, joined WSKG in 1998. Over the course of her career at WSKG, Crystal has produced numerous classical, folk and new age music programs. She produced and hosted the live bi-weekly show Community Conversation, a public affairs program featuring local guests (scholars, activists, politicians, citizens, etc.) discussing issues of local, regional, national and international importance.
In 2009, WSKG was awarded a My Source Community Impact Award for Engagement from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting Community Conversation, and the NYS Associated Press Broadcasters Association awarded Crystal with a Special Mention award for her Community Conversation on Sexual Assault and Rape in 2014.
