October marks the arrival of HD Radio on WSKG!

What is it?

It's the most significant advancement in radio broadcasting since the introduction of FM stereo more than 50 years ago. HD Radio technology enables AM and FM radio stations to broadcast their programs digitally - a tremendous technological leap from the analog broadcasts of the past. HD Radio features crystal-clear reception with no audio distortion, static, hiss, pops or fades.

WSKG has made the transition to HD Radio on 4 of its 5 transmitters. Thanks to a significant matching grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, as well as several individual and corporate donations, WSKG has been able to purchase the 4 new transmitters with minimal impact on our operating budget. The new transmitters are in Binghamton, Ithaca, Corning/Elmira and Hornell/Alfred.

What does HD radio mean for you?

HD Radio technology features a dual digital and analog signal that allows your current analog radio to work as it always has.  However, your purchase of a new HD Radio, will allow you to pick up WSKG's HD signal, as well as additional content, utilizing WSKG's HD2 channel.  WSKG's HD2 will be WSQX 91.5, your Jazz and News Alternative, that's been serving Broome and Tioga counties since 1995.

Your HD Radio will also receive all of the analog stations currently available in your area.
