Working on WellnessChildhood obesity is a sobering national epidemic that unfortunately has not spared the Southern Tier. Local legislators, including Senator Schumer, are expressing concern with the link between childhood obesity and its relationship to the development of health related diseases, such as diabetes. With generous support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and The Conrad and Virginia Klee Foundation, WSKG is launching a Working on Wellness initiative (WoW) to work with existing health organizations. WSKG is strategically positioned to develop new and coordinate existing efforts underway to address childhood obesity by using its media resources and outreach activities to create an awareness of what is being done in our community concerning childhood obesity.

For more information about WoW initiatives, download a copy of the WoW Program Descriptor. The WoW Program Descriptor includes information about our initiatives with our WoW partners.

Move It! FINAL.gif

WSKG's award winning television show promises a unique, high energy format for children and families interested in health and wellness.

WSKG began airing Move It! in the fall of 2009. Move It! continues with a second season in fall 2010. Take a sneak peek at Move It! and the Move It! teams!

Move It! is part of our WoW (Working on Wellness) initiative addressing childhood obesity in our community. The first season the show followed two teams of children as they competed in a variety of challenges and activities around health and wellness.

Whether it's a pond safari at Finch Hollow Nature Center, an on-ice hockey skills challenge following a meeting with the Binghamton Senators, or a salsa dance competition, the teams moved it non-stop the first season as they participated in numerous challenges. Thank you to the many local businesses that donated prizes for the teams.
