DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION

WSKG Public Television and Radio (PBS and NPR) is seeking a dynamic Director of Education.
This person represents WSKG’s education mission and services in the broader community and generates support for our digital and broadcast resources and other activities and events we provide to families, schools and informal learning environments. The director must represent WSKG’s commitment to the community and keep audience needs and engagement at the heart of our work. The Director of Education will deepen our position in the community by providing the leadership and vision to expand WSKG’s education initiatives and extend our reach with educators, students and families, including underserved areas.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Provide vision and leadership for WSKG’s education services as a respected provider of creative, high-quality content and community-based activities with a focus on providing media-rich, interactive learning experiences that are effective in virtual and in-person settings and easily accessed by teachers, students and parents.

  • Work closely with WSKG’s development staff to secure funding from local, state and national sources to expand the station’s education work.
  • Stay abreast of educational needs, trends and advocacy at the regional, state and national levels.
  • Forge strategic partnerships at the local, state and national level, including with schools, colleges, education-related organizations, community nonprofits and other public stations.
  • Continue to enlarge WSKG’s network of teachers and students using PBS Learning Media and families and early childhood providers with PBS KIDS multimedia content.
  • Maintain an active presence for educational services on WSKG’s digital platforms, including websites and social media.

QUALIFICATIONS
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field
• At least five years of youth-focused content development experience
• At least five years of management experience
• Grant writing and grant management experience
• Must possess superior communication skills and leadership skills

REPORTER/PRODUCER for Race and Identity Desk

WSKG is hiring a Reporter/Producer who will be responsible for producing balanced and engaging stories on issues of local and regional interest for broadcast on radio, television and web platforms in fulfillment of the station’s mission and in adherence with high journalistic and ethical standards. This position reports to the Director of News and Public Affairs Content.

WSKG is seeking applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or a related field, professional reporting and radio broadcasting experience and expertise in voice delivery and broadcast writing.  This entry level position pays $37,132, a generous benefits package and a 10% signing bonus.

Preferred candidates should have demonstrated competence with public radio style broadcast journalism, an understanding of digital and social media concepts, and a familiarity with issues, such as racial justice and housing, affecting upstate New York, in the Southern Tier, Finger Lakes, and Leatherstocking regions.

CLERICAL SUPPORT AND FINANCE ASSISTANT 

WSKG Public Television and Radio (NPR and PBS) is seeking a detail oriented person to join our team at our office in Vestal, New York.

As our Clerical Support and Finance Assistant you will be a part-time employee working 20 hours a week handling routine finance tasks and providing clerical support as needed to the WSKG team. Provide support to the main receptionist desk as needed.

A high school diploma is required as well as proficient computer, written and verbal skills. Understanding of public broadcasting and its commitment is preferred.

This position pays $15 per hour and the work schedule is negotiable.
