Annual Report 2012

As we look forward to a new fiscal year at WSKG, we wanted to take a moment to say thanks to all of you who support WSKG and make us a part of your daily lives. Without you, the past year’s successes would not have been possible – and there were many! I’d like to touch on a few of those.

WSKG produced 25 new television programs – all locally-produced content. These included twelve new episodes of Expressions, six new episodes of Let’s Polka!, and three (yes, three!) new historical documentaries, Watson, Johnson and Agnes: The Flood of ’72. In radio, we produced 24 episodes of Community Conversation and 26 episodes of Off the Page, resulting in 73 hours of new, local content. We continued to host Jazz in Silhouette, Soundscape, Saturday Night Folk and classical music, totaling over 1,000 hours of locally-hosted music. And we kicked off a new project, Youth Voice, that uses the power of media to empower youth and offers the community a chance to experience the often unheard voice of teens.

Have you visited lately? If so, you probably have noticed a difference in the website design. We launched the new in February 2012 and could not be happier with the response from the community. The website now includes local news, the latest news from NPR and PBS, easy-to-find live streaming of WSKG and WSQX, and video on demand.

In the wake of the September floods in our region, WSKG organized a Flood Relief Telethon with commercial radio and television stations resulting in a monumental effort. Together, our community helped raise over $250,000 in a single day. We are grateful to everyone who helped during this tragedy.

There have been many occasions in this past year where I have been very proud of the station, the employees and the community that continues to support WSKG. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who makes this possible.
