The Oneonta Concert Association presents the early music ensemble 'Rebel' on Friday, October 7 at 7:30 in the First United Methodist Church of Oneonta. Ensemble founders Jörg-Michael Schwarz and Karen Marie Marmer tell about how the ensemble got its unexpectedly successful start and a little about the French composer who supplied their name."The New York Times hailed them as “sophisticated and beguiling.” The Los Angeles Times calls them “flamboyant” with “astonishingly vital music-making.” Originally formed in The Netherlands in 1991, REBEL has performed widely in Europe and the US, and is featured regularly on NPR’s Performance Today. REBEL has recorded for all the major European national radio networks and is well known in this country for its longterm residency from 1997-2009 at historic Trinity Church in New York City. Come see why the Boston Globe praised REBEL for “performances that lacked nothing in inwardness, charm, or brilliance, as required.” https://www.wskg.org/audio/rebel.mp3 Photo credit: Chris Fanning for Rebel
