ICO Plays ‘Classic Meets Jazz’

Ithaca Community Orchestra presents its fall concert, ‘Classic Meets Jazz’. We hear from Music Director Madeline Schatz-Harris about the program, which features the regional premiere of Henry Wolking’s ‘Powell Canyons’, for orchestra and jazz combo. We also hear the story of Madeline’s journey from Alaska to Hawaii to Ithaca.

ROCHESTER, NY (WXXI) - A new survey from Siena College shows that only about a third of New Yorkers think that race relations in the state are either excellent or good. That compares to about two-thirds of them who say that race relations are either fair or poor.
SYRACUSE, NY (WRVO) - As the U.S. Senate gets down to businesses this week, New York’s two senators are pushing again for more aid to state and local governments, as part of the next COVID-relief bill. Democrats Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand say the Direct Support for Communities Act, can help pull state and local governments out of the deep budget holes created by the pandemic.
ALBANY, NY (WSKG) - Gov. Andrew Cuomo is due to release his state budget plan this week, as the state confronts the largest budget deficit the governor has faced in his decade in office, much of it due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The state was already facing a $6 billion structural deficit when the fiscal year began last April.
NEW YORK NOW - New York is seeking to purchase doses of the COVID-19 vaccine directly from pharmaceutical company Pfizer, saying the federal government isn’t delivering enough of the product to keep up with demand in the state. In a letter to the company’s CEO, Gov. Andrew Cuomo asked the company to consider selling directly to New York, eliminating the federal government as an exclusive middle-man.
