Pianist Shai Wosner is soloist in this weekend’s concert by the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra. We hear from Music Director Cornelia Laemmli Orth about the program, which features two works by Mozart, as well as music of Joan Tower, and a new work by Christopher Cerrone.

A Pennsylvania Court sifts through a stack of Congressional maps, hears from those who drew them

HARRISBURG, PA (WSKG) – After state lawmakers failed to agree on on a new Congressional map, a state court will now pick a new one by Monday and it has 14 maps to choose from. To that end, Commonwealth Court Judge Patricia McCullough spent nearly all of Thursday hearing from groups that drew those maps during proceedings in Harrisburg.

BINGHAMTON, NY (WSKG) — Activists rallied outside Broome County Court last week, alleging that women and pregnant people are being mistreated in the county jail. The activists, from Justice and Unity for the Southern Tier (JUST), read statements from women currently inside the jail.
State Legislature will draw its own new district maps and vote on them

Next week, the New York State Legislature plans to vote on new maps for congressional and legislative districts drawn by Democrats who control both the Senate and the Assembly after a bipartisan commission failed to reach consensus on the maps. Critics are calling it a failure of an independent process authorized by voters.
Community reacts to racist video posted by Bainbridge-Guilford High School, SUNY ESF students

ITHACA, NY (WSKG) — Residents in Otsego and Chenango counties are reacting to a racist video posted by two local men on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. In the video, a young white man holds a gun. Using a racial epithet, he said, “This is what we do to Black people.” He then fires the gun at a nearby tree, according to the Oneonta Daily Star.
Gillibrand pushes legislation that would address maternal mortality among Black women

SYRACUSE, NY (WRVO) - U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) is pushing for legislation that would provide more funds for two programs that would help deal with maternal health among Black women. During a recent visit to Syracuse, Gillibrand said gaps in maternal care for Black women has become a crisis, noting Black women in the U.S. are nearly three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women.
