Binghamton Devils, Rumble Ponies On Hold Amid COVID-19 Concern

VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - Both the American Hockey League and Minor League Baseball have put seasons on hold amid concern over the novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.

That means the Binghamton Devils hockey team has had its season suspended and Binghamton Rumble Ponies baseball will have a delayed start.

"The Binghamton Devils and Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena support the league’s decision and will continue to closely monitor the situation as time goes on," Devils spokesperson Rob Lippolis said in a statement. "Additional information or changes will be communicated at the appropriate time in this ever-evolving situation."

The Devils entered Thursday at 34-24-4-0 and in control of the fourth and final playoff spot in the AHL's North Division. The season had been set to end on April 11th.

Elsewhere, in the Federal Hockey League, the Elmira Enforcers plan to play a game on Thursday night in an arena without fans.

Meanwhile, the start of the Binghamton Rumble Ponies baseball season is delayed. Minor League Baseball announced the decision on Thursday. The Rumble Ponies season was scheduled to start on April 9th.
