People are gathering in cities across the country to question whether the Trump administration has a right to access our private information and cut our entitlement programs.
Without the power of social media, activists relied on determination, door-to-door outreach, and mass demonstrations to prevent NYS from placing a nuclear waste dump here in rural Allegany County. Their efforts throughout the late 1980s gained a lot of attention, and ultimately the state abandoned the project in 1990. Bump the Dump remains a testament to the power of grassroots activism in Allegany County, inspiring future movements and proving that even a small, rural community can stand up to powerful interests and win! Join us as we learn about this campaign and honor those who boldly stood up for a safer environment here in Allegany County. The day will wrap up with an art build!

Hubby Jenkins is a talented multi-instrumentalist who will share his love and knowledge of old-time American music with us on Sunday afternoon, April 6, 2025 at 2 PM. Born and raised in Brooklyn, he delved into his Southern roots, following the thread of African American history that wove itself through country blues, ragtime, fiddle and banjo, and traditional jazz. After years of busking and performing at many venues around NYC, Hubby began touring with the Carolina Chocolate Drops. As an integral part of the band he has been nominated for both a Grammy and Americana award, performed on both The Letterman and Jools Holland Shows, as well as toured around the US and Europe. He still plays with Rhiannan Giddons on occasion. In June 2024 he appeared at the Country Music Hall of Fame to celebrate their CD album release that documents the history of African-Americans in Country Music. This was followed by an appearance on the Grand Ole Opry. Hubby Jenkins knows a great deal about the history of the banjo, an instrument that was created by slaves in Caribbean and later in America and later popularized by Caucasian musicians used in other styles of music. Genres of music you will hear at this concert include Acoustic, Blues, Old-timey, Americana, Acoustic Blues, Blues Gospel and of course Folk.
