Democratic candidate for governor of New York Cynthia Nixon says she supports having supervised injection sites in New York state as part of a plan to reduce heroin overdose deaths.
Supervised injection sites are places where heroin users can inject drugs under medical supervision and get other healthcare. Ithaca is considering opening one.
Nixon spoke in Geneva yesterday. "I think it’s very important. She said, "I think it’s a great idea and I think it’s an idea we shouldn't be afraid of here in New York state. Saving lives is obviously our priority."
In the past, Nixon’s opponent, Governor Cuomo, did not favor supervised injection sites when they were part of a task force report on ending AIDS in New York.
