StoryCorps in the Classroom

Our education helps to develop who we are and what we will become. StoryCorps knows that this path is made brighter when we stop and listen to each other. As we end another school year, StoryCorps encourages you to learn more about the students in your life. In classrooms across America, students work with StoryCorps and to become the best version of themselves through listening and engaging with their family, loved ones, and peers.

Cross-disciplinary (language arts, media, history) for Grades 9 and 10

Over the past five years, StoryCorps has been working in classrooms throughout America with a high school youth development curriculum called StoryCorpsU (SCU). The efforts in the classroom are designed with lesson plans that asks students to reflect on Where They're From, Who They Are, and Where They're Going.Take a (free!) look at the first three lessons:

  1. Introduction to the Common Application for Undergraduate College AdmissionStudents’ stories matter.
  2. Effective Interview QuestionsLearn great interview skills that can be helpful in future college and job interviews.
  3. Future Possible SelvesIdentify your strengths. Who do you want to be?

We know that when a student gets the chance to talk about his or her story and listen to someone else's, it builds both emotional intelligence and also self-confidence.

Looking Ahead

Last year, StoryCorps piloted The Great Thanksgiving Listen (TGTL) and joined forces with teachers and students everywhere to become a part of history.Do you want to bring this to your classroom next year?
