The result is a radical, up-to-the-minute examination of race in America, using Baldwin’s original words, spoken by Samuel L. Jackson, and with a flood of rich archival material.

He produced "I Am Not Your Negro" together with director Raoul Peckand co-producer Rémi Grellety. The critically acclaimed film was nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the 89th Academy Awards.

Karefa-Smart was born in New York City and raised in a house where famous African-American writers, artists, and musicians often congregated.
