One Month Left for Students to Enter 'An Ear for Drama'

You might listen to three podcasts a week, some streaming from a favorite website or others downloaded to your phone... But what entertainment could be found through your headphones before the internet?

Enter the RADIO DRAMA!

Wikipedia reminds us that radio drama first appeared in the 1920s and quickly rose in popularity. In the 1940s, it was a leading form of popular entertainment for children and adults; and one they often enjoyed together. The invention of the television stunted this popularity, but radio dramas have continued to be produced over the past 90 years.

What will happen if we combine the creative writing of students and teachers with the audio technology of today?

(Something awesome, we think!)

Teachers and students: Create a script for a 15-minute radio drama that will air on WSKG Radio! Classrooms of students between Grade 7 and Grade 12 are challenged to work together to build a story, write a script, and submit a group entry (see form below).

A panel of judges will review submissions and the classroom behind the winning script will be invited to WSKG's Youth Media Lab to produce their radio drama. (Stipend is available to offset transportation costs.) Prior to the day of production at WSKG, the Youth Focused team will offer in-class instruction. This will include final script editing, voice techniques, tips for recording ambient sound, and a practice session before recording.
