Bill Foster is the Program Director for Cayuga Lake Floating Classroom. Foster and his staff teach young people about the ecology of the lake and how this ecosystem they depend on for drinking water works. “When they come out and learn, they’re also making observations that become data,” says Foster. “We can use data [students] collect to teach other people about the lake.”
“It is important that citizens and scientists take the time to learn more about the lake,” says student producer Ijeyilowoicho Onah. “This will keep our tourists coming, as well as keep our drinking water clean. It’s important to preserve the health of Cayuga Lake. We all depend on it. So, as a community, let’s do our part!”
