The money comes from the federal Homeland Security Grant Program. It equips and trains local FBI-accredited bomb squads to check for improvised explosive devices.

According to Governor Andrew Cuomo’s office, the federal government has given more than $21 million to New York to assist homeland security efforts over the last 13 years.
