WSKG Public Media is proud to partner with New York City theatre company, Cause Celebre for a deeply compelling, hour-long film entitled “Did You Know My Husband?” This dramatic production, which brings together Tony and Emmy Award winners, revolves around the loss of one’s memory while gaining an important connection.
The film stars Emmy nominated actress Louise Lasser and Tony-award winning actress Carole Shelley, with Catherine Chadwick and Michael Citriniti. Lasser and Shelley play two women, who find themselves together after a Thanksgiving dinner. The other guests are off in another room. It seems as if they’ve met before. But where and how is only revealed at the end, as the two women, caught in an emotional labyrinth, try to find their way out. Tremendous drama and suspense build throughout, highlighted by an original score that is both haunting and mesmerizing.
Ms. Lasser is best known for her starring role in the 1970’s hit television show “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman” as well as co-starring with then-husband Woody Allen in movies such as Bananas and Take The Money and Run. Ms. Shelley won the Tony Award for her role as Mrs. Kendal in The Elephant Man. Shelley created the role of Madame Morrible in the original Broadway cast of the musical Wicked. She also co-starred in The Odd Couple with Jack Lemon and Walter Mattheu.
“Did You Know My Husband?” was written by award-winning writer and Cause Celebre Founding Artistic Director, Susan Charlotte. It is based on her play of the same name, which received a successful New York Production. Ms. Charlotte, whose plays and films have starred Oscar, Tony and Emmy Award-winning actors often explore important causes and issues in her work. Her film, Love Divided By, which deals with schizophrenia, has an original score by Philip Glass and was chosen to open the Museum of Modern Art’s Titus II.
“Did You Know My Husband?” was directed by Antony Marsellis, the resident director of Cause Celebre. Mr. Marsellis has directed the works of Award-winning writers, performed by Broadway and film stars throughout the country. He premiered the one-act version of Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie. And he also collaborated with Ms. Charlotte on a number of projects, including the film and play version of The Shoemaker, starring Oscar Nominee Danny Aiello.
The film’s original score was composed by four-time Emmy Award winner Billy Goldenberg. Mr. Goldenberg, whose career spans over five decades, has worked with film, theatre and music icons such as Steven Spielberg, Michael Bennett, Elvis Presley, and Barbra Streisand. He also wrote the theme songs to such classics as “Columbo”, “Kojak” and “Rhoda” and “Night Gallery.”
In addition to the film, we go behind the scenes of the production and Cause Celebre, whose mission is to connect important issues with television, film, and theatre. We are also privy to intimate and revealing conversations with the cast, composer and writer.
The film was produced by Cause Celebre, LTD., and WSKG Public Media.
