NEW YORK NOW - Hospitalizations in New York due to COVID-19 have more than doubled over the last month, with the state reporting more than 1,000 hospitalizations due to the virus Friday for the first time in four months. Hospitalizations were up to 1,023 on Thursday, according to data released by Gov. Andrew Cuomo Friday.
CORNING, N.Y. (AP) An upstate New York congressman said he and his family were threatened with a dead animal and a brick bearing a family member’s name at his home Friday. The brick and the animal were found at Republican Rep. Tom Reed's house after 10:30 a.m., according to the Corning Police Department, which said it was working with state police and federal agencies to investigate, according to WIVB-TV.
ROCHESTER, NY (WSKG) - Governor Andrew Cuomo says comments made by the White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows on Sunday are a good example of the way the Trump Administration has approached dealing with the coronavirus. Mark Meadows said on CNN on Sunday that the U.S. is not going to control the pandemic, but will instead work on controlling vaccines, therapeutics, and other mitigation efforts.
TOMPKINS COUNTY, NY (WSKG) - Over two hundred counter protesters came out to voice opposition to about two dozen Back the Blue supporters in Ithaca on Saturday. Another Back the Blue rally was held in Ithaca last month.
NEW YORK NOW - The number of incarcerated individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 at a small state prison in Chemung County has grown from just four at the beginning of the month to more than 300 confirmed cases as of this week, according to the latest state data. Visitors are no longer allowed at the prison, Elmira Correctional Facility, but criminal justice advocates are calling on Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the state prison agency to do more.
