Alexander String Quartet
October 20 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Sponsored by WSKG Public Media
The internationally acclaimed Alexander String Quartet is widely admired for its interpretations of Beethoven, Mozart, Bartók, and Shostakovich. Formed in 1981, the quartet has appeared at major halls on five continents, including Lincoln Center, the 92nd Street Y, and the Metropolitan Museum in New York City. In addition, the ASQ has also established itself as an important advocate of new music through over 25 commissions from such composers as Jake Heggie, Cindy Cox, Augusta Read Thomas, and Pulitzer Prize-winner, Wayne Peterson.
“The Alexander Quartet is destined for greatness,” says the Guardian (U.K.); their concerts make you “live through the music and rejoice with the performers in risks successfully taken.”
Overflowing with emotion and sheer joy for playing, along with acute discipline and a tight sense of unity, it’s no wonder that the Alexander String Quartet has earned a place among the world’s premiere ensembles and repeat WKC performers (1989, 1991, 2015).
The ASQ will play:
W.A. Mozart: String Quartet No. 16 in E-flat major, K. 428
Krzysztof Penderecki: String Quartet No. 3 “Leaves of an Unwritten Diary”
Maurice Ravel: String Quartet
