Binghamton University historian to present Weeping Time and Divided America

February 21 @ 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton University historian Anne Bailey will present a lecture entitled Weeping Time and Divided America at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, in Symposium Hall at the Binghamton University Innovative Technologies Complex (ITC). The event is free and open to the public, but RSVP is requested.

Bailey, professor of history and Africana studies at Binghamton University, will use her recent book, The Weeping Time: Memory and the Largest Slave Auction in American History, as a starting point to discuss ways in which higher education has a role to play in bridging divides in the contemporary U.S.

Her work is known for combining elements of travel, adventure, history, and contemporary issues. Her projects range from adult non-fiction to children’s historical fiction, and include African Voices of the Atlantic Slave Trade: Beyond the Silence and the Shame and You Can Make a Difference: The Story of Martin Luther King Jr.

Bailey’s lecture is part of the Harpur Dean’s Distinguished Lecture series; each year the Dean of Harpur College selects a distinguished faculty member to both honor their accomplishments and to provide an opportunity to share their scholarship with students, faculty, and community members.

To RSVP, email Kaitlin Maynard at kmaynard@binghamton.edu by Feb. 18.
