Cornell Botanic Gardens Art Exhibit, “Blooms From Being Planted 2018”
March 22 @ 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm
“Blooms From Being Planted 2018” is an art exhibit of Photographic Images by Mary Kay Marks, an artist, and photographer from Cortland, New York. Cornell Botanic Gardens plays an integral part in her artwork; this exhibit started as photographs taken in the garden. Once she has a photo, she decides whether she wants to “play” with it, using Adobe Photoshop to manipulate and/or crop the image into her own creation. Sometimes the manipulation results in softening the image and other times intensifying it.
Photography was mainly used for family and vacations photos until she created a notecard collection for Mother as a Mother’s Day gift. Her photography allows her to look and see art all around her which created the tagline, “Art in the Everyday Experience.” Early in her career, she worked in the art industry for Micky Roof, Designer Goldsmith and it was there she conceived the idea for the “Greater Ithaca Art Trail.” She was not involved in the development or implementation because she moved into another role but takes great pride in its continued success for local artists, which she is now one.
Her line of notecards are sold locally and in her home state of Rhode Island. This past summer she launched her “Northeast Backyard Birds Poster” which again was another project she did for her mother! Her Mom passed in November 2017 but her spirit and encouragement are always with Mary Kay in her art. Please join Mary Kay for an artist reception on March 22nd at the Nevin Welcome Center at Cornell Botanic Gardens. The exhibit is on display for March and April.
