Farming for Justice Discussion Group: Cultural Appropriation in Food & Farming Part II

December 12 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am

As farmers, food business owners, and food system participants, we sometimes adopt Indigenous ways of growing or make use of the traditions of other cultures in our recipes or restaurants. While we may not intend harm with these actions, cultural appropriation by members of a dominant culture means these elements are used outside of their original cultural context—often against the stated wishes of members of the originating culture.

In this two-part “Farming for Justice” session (11/7 & 12/12), join Patrice Lockert Anthony, Facilitator, Thought Leader, and Cultural Provocateur, to learn more about cultural appropriation, why it’s hurtful, and discuss resources and tools for all of us to become aware of to practice in our food and farming businesses.

Join the discussion in-person or via video conference.

FARMING FOR JUSTICE IS A MONTHLY MEETING FOR FARMERS, FOOD PRODUCERS, AND FOOD SYSTEM WORKERS INTERESTED IN DIGGING INTO THE INTERSECTION OF FOOD, AGRICULTURE, AND SOCIAL JUSTICE.
