First Friday Art Night at the Museum – June Silberman
January 4 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Visit the Museum of the Earth’s Gift Shop on First Friday Art Night, January 4, 2019, to see June Silberman’s gel prints of natural ferns and leaves on hand-painted dyed fabric and watch her demonstrate her process. All her artworks are individual monoprints enhanced by stamping/stenciling the background and machine stitching. The Museum will be open for extended evening hours.
June will do a presentation at Art Night about how she goes about creating her artworks. She will demonstrate creating a gel print using hand dyed fabric, paint, and natural leaves to show the step-by-step process she uses to create her unique pieces. She will also have extra leaves available for the audience to try making their own prints.
June Silberman does fabric painting, makes art-to-wear garments, and is a doll maker. She currently lives in Ithaca, New York but was born and lived the first 25 years of her life in Brooklyn, NY. She works primarily with fabrics, polymer clay and soft sculpture materials exploring different mediums while applying new and old (quilting, sewing) techniques to original artwork.
She has converted her garage into a dying and printing studio to save the beauty of her garden. She creates marbled backgrounds using acrylic paints, then does gel printing using many varieties of ferns and leaves from her garden. The leaves block the printing ink leaving the marbled design showing. She then finishes the artwork with echo stitching. Her work has appeared in magazines such as “Soft Dolls and Animals” and “Quilting Arts Magazine’.
Light refreshments will be served. Admission to the show in the Museum’s Gift Shop is free, special evening admission rates apply to Museum exhibits. The artwork will be on display through the end of January.
While you are there, take the opportunity to enjoy an evening at the Museum of the Earth. We have extended evening hours—the Museum will be open until 8 pm! Admission to the Museum on Friday Art Nights (from 5 to 8 pm) is only $5.00.
