On Sunday, December 2, at 3PM, Friends of Music of Stamford NY presents a free chamber music concert by The Iceberg Quartet, featuring Delhi native Jacob Efthimiou (cello), Russell Iceberg (violin), Chris Stork (violin), and Chung Han Hsiao (viola). The Iceberg String Quartet won the McGill Chamber Music Competition in 2017 and was chosen for the study and performance summer program at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Alberta, Canada.
The group will perform String Quartet No. 11 in F minor, Op. 95 (“Serioso,” 1810) by Ludwig van Beethoven, Langsamer Satz (The Slow Movement, 1905) by Anton Webern, and Claude Debussy’s String Quartet in G minor, Op. 10 (1892-1893).
Jacob Efthimiou began his study of the cello at age 10, performed with the Little Delaware Chamber Players, and was a member of the Empire State Youth Orchestra. In June 2012, he toured Asia with ESYO, performing as principal cellist in China and South Korea. Jacob won 3rd prize at the Anthony R. Stefan Scholarship Competition in 2012, and has been featured on WSKG Public Television’s Expressions series along with his three siblings. Jacob’s musical studies began under Julian Wilcox, followed by study under Benjamin Whittenburg. He attended the New York Summer Music Festival for many years and won the festival’s concerto competition in 2012.
