Vincent Terrell Durham’s The Fertile River

Following the successful 2017 public readings of Vincent Durham's “The Fertile
River,” Face It! Theatre Company is pleased to be bringing a full stage
production to Binghamton. The play is a tightly written drama about the infamous
North Carolina Eugenics Program as it appeared in 1958, and it grapples with
questions such as racism, white privilege, male sexual dominance, and the
abuse of state power. The story centers on an impoverished African American
family whose members are confronted by a state eugenics agent and her intent
for their children.
“The Fertile River” has been staged only once before, at Baylor University last
October. As such this is a rare opportunity to bring to the Binghamton
community a new play, a sharp political play that is certain to leave its mark on
the theatre world. This is a powerful drama not to be missed.
Performances on September 14 th and 15 th at 7pm, and on September16 th at 2pm
at First Congregational Church, 30 Front Street, Binghamton. Talkbacks after
every show. All performances are FREE TO THE PUBLIC. Further details
available on Face It! Theatre’s Facebook page or at faceittheatre.org.
