Alice Throckmorton McLean

On October 13, 1946, Eleanor Roosevelt and around 200 female delegates from over 50 different nations descended upon the small Upstate New York town of South Kortright. The women had gathered for a 10-day conference to discuss the political, economic, and social issues of their day in hopes of bringing peace to the world. The International Assembly of Women, as the event was known, was the brainchild of Alice Throckmorton McLean.
