Today Cornell University enrolls over 20,000 students in 14 different colleges and schools, but when its door’s first opened in the fall of 1868 the university had just one building and 412 students. One man would do more to help guide the fledging university through its initial years and set it on course to become one of the greatest institutes of higher education in the county.
