Broome County has a long and rich history — from its beginnings as part of the Iroquois Confederacy to the birthplace of Endicott Johnson and IBM.
In 1919, a group of concerned residents gathered to protect this heritage. They formed the Broome County Historical Society with the mission to collect, preserve and interpret the history of Broome County. Today, nearly one hundred years after it began the Society continues to fulfill that mission.
The Broome County Historical Society maintains a collection of nearly 200,000 items at the Roberson Museum and Science Center and at the Local History & Genealogy Center providing researchers a window into Broome County’s past and another stop along New York’s Path through history.
