In 1789, a party of twenty families traveled from Connecticut to the Catskill Mountains in Delaware County – in search of a new home. Along the east branch of the Delaware River they found the log cabin of Israel Inman, who had settled in the area just one year earlier. With Inman’s assistance, the group located a suitable spot, and started the settlement that would become Roxbury.
