Ithaca School Superintendent Resigns
TOMPKINS COUNTY, NY (WSKG) - The superintendent of the Ithaca City School District has resigned. The board of education announced the resignation of Luvelle Brown on Tuesday during its meeting which was held virtually.
His resignation goes into effect on Feb. 1. Brown will become the head of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion for Discovery Education, a global education company providing resources and support for students and teachers.
Brown has been superintendent for a decade. During that time he has received national and local recognition for his work.
He has also received criticism for some decisions relating to school reopening plans during the pandemic.
The Board is expected to appoint Deputy Superintendent Lily Talcott as Interim Superintendent. Brown will provide consultation throughout the remainder of the academic year.
