New York Senator Looks Forward To Working With New York’s New Governor

SYRACUSE, NY (WRVO) - In her new role, Gov. Kathy Hochul will have to think beyond the state and create strong partnerships at the federal level, too.

U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) will likely be one of those allies. She said she’s looking forward to working with the new governor.

“I've known Kathy Hochul for a very long time,” said Gillibrand. “We got to serve together in Congress, and she has the experience and leadership ability to really deliver for our state."

Both Gillibrand and Hochul have roots in Upstate New York, and now they’re both facing the challenge of pulling New York state out of a pandemic and getting the economy back on track.

Funding from the American Rescue Plan Act will play a large role in that. The $1.9 trillion stimulus bill is designed to give local governments, schools, and businesses a much-needed boost. Gillibrand said she’ll work with Hochul to fight for the state’s fair share.

"I stand ready to work with Kathy Hochul to make sure she can govern this state and that I can provide as many federal resources as possible to allow her to bring our state back together and to get our economy up and running again," said Gillibrand.

Gillibrand was one of many Democratic lawmakers to call for former Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s resignation. She said she now looks forward to a new culture of leadership in Albany.
