New York state has already had bitterly cold temperatures this week. That includes the Southern Tier and the lates forecast say that will continue.
This weekend will bring us more than a New Year. For those traveling, David Morford, Senior Forecaster for the National Weather Service in Binghamton, has advice about road conditions. He says temperatures during the day could be in the single digits or low teens and drop below zero at night. With the windchill, people should use extra caution.
“When it gets this cold the salts just don’t work as well so it’ll either partially melt or won’t melt at all," Morford said. "So roads you may anticipate will be dry will be slippery even with a small amount of snow.”
He also says it's important to always travel with a coat, hat and gloves in case you have trouble on the road.
Even pets need extra care. For some tips on how to protect your dog in the cold weather WSKG has made a video with tips from the Cornel University College of Veterinary Medicine.
