Hot Weather Begins Our Week, But It Won't Last Long

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WSKG) - This week is starting out hot.

Highs on Monday are in the lower 90’s and much of the region is under a heat advisory until tonight. After that, it starts cool down.

“Yeah, it’s actually a pretty short heatwave this time," said Mike Murphy, who's a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Binghamton.

"We’re just expecting the real hot temperatures just to last into this afternoon and then it starts to gradually cool off through the rest of the week so really today is the main day for the heat,” said Murphy.

“It’s very humid out there right now," Murphy said. "We do expect the humidity to finally decrease by the time we get to Thursday."

Murphy recommends people use caution when outside in hot temperatures and limit exercise to the evening hours.

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Advisory for New York City, Long Island and Western New York. There is no such warning for the Southern Tier or Finger Lakes.
