ITHACA, NY (WSKG) - Amazon’s decision to cancel it’s planned headquarters in New York City has some upstate Republicans saying the governor bears part of the blame.
Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb says the collapse of the Amazon deal reflects an overall climate that doesn’t welcome businesses.
"It’s not just Amazon," Kolb said. "It’s any significantly larger company that we want to attract to New York State. I just think we have to do a much better job of making economic development number one priority without just writing checks all the time."
The Amazon deal required a $3 billion incentive package including tax breaks. Opponents questioned if tax payers should subsidize a company worth $1 trillion.
