ITHACA, NY (WSKG) -- A New York State Senator from Olean is resigning her seat to take a job with Cornell University.
State Senator Cathy Young has been a leading voice for Republicans and upstate communities.
But, in two weeks, she'll start as the head of the State Center of Excellence for Food and Agriculture at Cornell. It's a center funded by New York that works to boost the state's agricultural economy.
Young says serving her upstate district has been her life’s “deepest honor.” Young spent 20 years in the Legislature and is a former chairwoman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee.
Her seat will remain vacant until a special election is held.
