BINGHAMTON, NY (WSKG) - New York probably won’t legalize recreational marijuana use this year but it’s still a topic of debate in some communities.
A panel of public health, law enforcement and others will speak this evening in Tompkins County about the pros and cons of legalizing recreational marijuana.
Last year, the county legislature passed a resolution supporting legalization.
County Medical Director William Klepack said discussion is more about legalization of TC, which is the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana. Because it can be highly concentrated, it’s important to discuss how to regulate it and protect public health.
A January survey by Quinniapiac University found that 65 percent of New York voters support the legalization of marijuana.
The discussion is Monday, April 29, 7 PM in the public library in Ithaca.
