VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - If you’re getting an early start on the Memorial Day weekend, you may run into nasty weather.
Severe thunderstorms are set to hit the region. The worst of the storm is expected this evening between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., with the hardest hit area in the Southern Tier south of Interstate 86/Route 17 and into northeast Pennsylvania.
“That’s what we’re most concerned with, where you could have some severe weather, with gusty winds, some hail and even an isolated tornado,” said Bryan Greenblatt, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Binghamton.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has opened its incident command center in anticipation of tonight’s heavy weather.
Conditions will be better for travelers on Friday, before another possibility of severe thunderstorms hits the region on Saturday.
