VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - The New York Gaming Commission voted unanimously monday to approve regulations that allow sports betting at Tioga Downs and three other casinos.
The other casinos are Resorts World Catskills in Monticello, Rivers Casino and Resort in Schenectady, and Del Lago Resort and Casino in Waterloo. The betting won't begin until the facilities receive state licenses, which will likely be this summer.
A call to Tioga Downs was not immediately returned.
This all comes as a push to legalize sports gambling in New York continues. Legislation has been introduced to allow wagers at sports venues and on devices but that hasn't come up for a vote. Notable sports figures have appeared in Albany in recent years to push for legalized sports betting. They include former New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi.
Several states, including Pennsylvania, have approved similar regulations in recent years.
