VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - Paul Battisti has a small lead over Mike Korchak in the race for the Republican nomination for Broome County District Attorney.
Unofficial results show Battisti up by 137 votes. 9,030 people cast a vote, overall. The final results will be known after absentee ballots are counted on July 8th.
"We will look forward to the Absentee Ballot count on July 8th and then, God willing if successful, continue campaigning hard to spread our message of new leadership to make Broome County safer from violent crime and the scourge of the opioid epidemic," Battisti said in a statement.
A call and email to Korchak campaign were not immediately returned.
The winner faces Democratic candidate Debra Gelson* in November’s general election They'll vie to replace current DA Steve Cornwell, who is not seeking re-election.
