VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell is preparing for a run for Congress in New York's 22nd District.
Brindisi posted several stories about his candidacy to his candidate Facebook page over the weekend. There has been no formal announcement. The Republican aims to unseat freshman Democrat Anthony Brindisi.
Cornwell has served as District Attorney since 2015. He would enter a Republican primary that already features Franklin Sager and George Phillips, both of Broome County.
Brindisi defeated Republican incumbent Claudia Tenney in 2018 by less than two percentage points. New York's 22nd District covers Chenango, Cortland, Oneida and Madison Counties. As well as parts of Broome, Tioga, Oswego and Herkimer Counties.
