VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - A central New York town has refused to permit Woodstock 50 at a horse track. Officials in the town of Vernon say the application is too late and incomplete.
Organizers deny the application was incomplete and will appeal the decision to the Vernon planning board.
Woodstock 50 was initially set for August at the Watkins Glen International race track , but WGI pulled out last month. That cancellation came after several issues surfaced within the festival's organization, which included delayed ticket sales and missed payments.
This most recent denial comes after opponents of the three-day festival packed a Vernon town board meeting on Monday night. That includes the Oneida County Sheriff, who says, given the short notice, it would be impossible to ensure public safety for the event.
