Overdose Deaths In Broome Drop From Early 2019 Spike, Now Steady With Last Summer

VESTAL (WSKG) - After a spike last March, Broome County Overdose death numbers dropped in the second quarter of the this year. Those statistics were released today by the Broome County District Attorney.

The county reported six overdose deaths between April and June. They came after 12 overdose deaths in March, including six in a ten-day period.  District Attorney Steve Cornwell blamed the appearance more potent fentanyl, which is mixed with heroin.

After the spike, Broome County officials declared a State of Emergency.

The six overdose deaths this quarter is two more than this time in 2018. There were 19 over the same period in 2017, and 13 in 2016.
