VESTAL, NY (WSKG) — Clean-up is complete at the New York Superfund site at the former Hidden Valley Electronics facility in Vestal. The site is located on the Vestal Parkway. Hazardous waste was improperly disposed at the facility until 1990.
Superfund sites are part of a program designed to clean-up contamination.
The state’s Department of Environmental Conservation reclassified the site, saying it no longer poses a threat to public health or the environment.
According to the DEC, the site is located over a water aquifer that provides drinking water to most of the local population.
The DEC has put an environmental easement in place, meaning future development on the site will be limited. The Management Plan also requires continued evaluation of the site.
