ITHACA, NY (WSKG) - Finger Lakes state senator Pamela Helming is criticizing Governor Andrew Cuomo over his push for new New York license plates.
The Canadaigua Republican said the new fees are "ridiculous" and called them a "money grab gimmick." She also criticized the designs for only having one scene from upstate New York.
Cuomo's office has asked the public to vote on the new state license plate. Four of the designs feature sites in New York City. The fifth includes Niagara Falls.
The new license plates cost $25, but that would go up to $45 to keep an old license plate number.
