Trumansburg Continues To Debate New Affordable Housing Development

ITHACA, NY (WSKG) — Residents of the Village of Trumansburg and the Town of Ulysses filled a public hearing in the village fire hall on Thursday evening.

Trumansburg is in Tompkins County north of Ithaca.

Most at the hearing oppose a proposed mixed income housing development called Cresecent Way. The project has been argued about for over two years, and has caused rifts among residents.

Many, like Paula Horrigan, object to the scale of the project.

"I will say that this site plan is incompatible with Trumansburg’s historic village setting and it’s historic neighborhoods," Horrigan said.

Others raised objections citing environmental issues and village codes or standards.

A few spoke in favor of the project saying there is a great need for housing affordable for median and working class residents of the area.

The project would include over 70 rental, market-rate and subsidized homes. It would cover about 20 acres.

The Planning Board has yet to vote on the project.
