ITHACA, NY (WSKG) - Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick has nominated Acting Police Chief Dennis Nayor to be the next chief of police.
Nayor joined the Ithaca Police force as Deputy Chief of Professional Standards in 2018. He has been the acting police chief since this June when previous police chief Pete Tyler retired.
Nayor began his career with the Oneonta police department and eventually served as chief there for five year and retired in 2017.
Nayor then became Director of Research, Development, and Training for the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police.
Nayor’s appointment needs approval from the Ithaca Common Council. Its next meeting is on October 2nd. If approved the appointment would go into effect immediately.
