VESTAL, NY (WSKG) — 19th District Congressman Antonio Delgado is calling on Congress to impeach President Donald Trump.
He and some other Democrats want to move forward with impeachment after news broke that Trump had conversations with Ukraine's president in which he allegedly solicited dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden.
“The first responsibility of the President of the United States is to keep our country safe," Degaldo said in statement. "But it has become clear that our president has placed his personal interests above the national security of our nation."
Delgado represents New York's 19th Congressional district, which includes Delaware, Otsego and part of Broome counties.
While there was an impeachment push by members in solidly Democratic districts before the Ukraine news came to light. Delgado had held off, but he now says Trump’s latest actions are an impeachable offense.
Delgado is in his first term in Congress after beating Republican incumbent John Faso last November. The 19th district is split about 50-50 among Democrats and Republicans and showed strong support for Trump in 2016.
