Reed Condemns Impeachment Inquiry; No Indication Of 'Nefarious' Acts By Trump

ITHACA, NY (WSKG) - Congressman Tom Reed has condemned Congressional Democrats for initiating an impeachment inquiry against President Trump. Reed said their motive is to overturn the 2016 election. Something he said can be done in the 202o election, not by impeachment.

Reed represents New York's 23rd Congressional district which stretches from Lake Erie and then across the Southern Tier. It includes Hornell, Corning and Ithaca.

Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Tuesday that she was authorizing House committees to begin an official impeachment inquiry.

The Southern Tier Republican says the impeachment inquiry diverts Congress from working on legislation of benefit to the American people.

Reed's statement came after the release of a summary of a call between Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Reed described the summaries as turning up "nothing nefarious".

The summary describe several instances where Trump asked the Ukrainian leader to specifically investigate Hunter Biden, son of presidential candidate Joe Biden. The U.S. president asked Zelentsky to share any information with U.S. Attorney General William Barr and his personal attorney Rudolph Giuliani.

The summary is from notes and not recordings.  Plus, they contain several ellipses
