ITHACA, NY (WSKG) - Dennis Nayor has been named new chief in a special meeting held Wednesday evening.
WSKG previously reported this wouldn’t happen until October.
Nayor joined the Ithaca department as Deputy Chief of Professional Standards in 2018.
He began his career with the Oneonta police department and eventually served as chief there for five years.
Nayor then became Director of Research, Development, and Training for the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police.
Nayor has been acting chief since June, after former chief Pete Tyler retired.
